Care Placements Evaluation

National Evaluation of the Multi - dimensional Treatment Foster Care in England Programme (MTFCE)

Researchers from the Universities of York and Manchester have been commissioned by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) to carry out an evaluation of the different types of care placements used by troubled adolescents. This involves comparing a new type of specialist foster care, being piloted in 15 local authorities across England , with the usual care placements used by young people.

The evaluation began in January 2005 and will continue until July 2007. It involves collecting baseline and outcome information on young people, via interviews and questionnaires for young people, carers, social workers and MTFCE teams.
